Um terceiro homem foi acusado de assassinato pela morte da estrela do Run-DMC, Jam Master Jay, em 2002.
Na terça-feira, os promotores federais do Distrito Leste de Nova York anunciaram que haviam acusado Jay Bryant, 49, de assassinato enquanto estava envolvido em narcotráfico e outras acusações de tráfico de drogas em relação à morte da estrela do hip-hop, relata o The New York Times .
Jam Master Jay, nome verdadeiro Jason Mizell, foi baleado na cabeça em seu estúdio em Queens, Nova York, em 30 de outubro de 2002, aos 37 anos.
De acordo com a acusação, Bryant já estava sob custódia aguardando julgamento por acusações federais de drogas não relacionadas.
Em 2020, outros dois homens, Ronald Washington e Karl Jordan Jr., foram acusados do assassinato do músico. Eles anteriormente se declararam inocentes e devem ser julgados em janeiro de 2024.
O advogado de Bryant, César de Castro, disse a vários veículos na terça-feira que seu cliente também se declararia inocente.
"Garantir uma acusação em um grande júri secreto, aplicando um ônus de prova extremamente baixo, é uma coisa", disse ele. "Provar isso no julgamento é outra questão."
Em 2020, os promotores alegaram que Jay foi morto por causa de um negócio de drogas azedado. Em uma carta apresentada ao tribunal na terça-feira, eles alegaram que Bryant, Washington e Jordan Jr. entraram no estúdio de gravação naquela noite e fugiram após o tiroteio.
De acordo com a Associated Press, os promotores afirmaram que Bryant foi flagrado entrando no prédio e seu DNA foi recuperado na cena do crime.
Run-DMC, também apresentando Joseph 'Run' Simmons e Darryl 'DMC' McDaniels, se desfez após a morte de Jay.

A third man has been charged with murder over the death of Run-DMC star Jam Master Jay in 2002.
On Tuesday, federal prosecutors in the Eastern District of New York announced that they had charged Jay Bryant, 49, with murder while engaged in narcotics trafficking and other drug-trafficking counts in relation to the hip-hop star's death, reports The New York Times.
Jam Master Jay, real name Jason Mizell, was shot in the head in his studio in Queens, New York, on 30 October 2002 at the age of 37.
According to the indictment, Bryant was already in custody awaiting trial on unrelated federal drugs charges.
In 2020, two other men, Ronald Washington and Karl Jordan Jr., were charged with the musician's murder. They previously pleaded not guilty and are scheduled to stand trial in January 2024.
Bryant's lawyer César de Castro told multiple outlets on Tuesday that his client would also plead not guilty.
"Securing an indictment in a secret grand jury, applying an extremely low burden of proof, is one thing," he said. "Proving it at trial is another matter."
Back in 2020, prosecutors alleged that Jay was killed over a soured drug deal. In a letter filed with the court on Tuesday, they claimed that Bryant, Washington and Jordan Jr. entered the recording studio that evening and fled after the shooting.
According to The Associated Press, prosecutors stated that Bryant was spotted going into the building and his DNA was recovered at the scene of the crime.
Run-DMC, also featuring Joseph 'Run' Simmons and Darryl 'DMC' McDaniels, disbanded after Jay's death.
