Madonna postou uma foto no Instagram na quarta-feira com as iniciais de ambos os artistas, S&M, acompanhada da legenda “VULGAR…………. nova música na sexta-feira, 9 de junho, @samsmith.”
O anúncio oficial segue semanas de dicas online de Smith. Em 24 de maio, o hitmaker Unholy de 31 anos - que usa pronomes eles / eles - provocou a colaboração compartilhando um clipe de áudio em suas mídias sociais, que apresentava os dois artistas gemendo repetidamente seus nomes, "Sam e Madonna".
Alguns dias depois, Sam compartilhou uma imagem no Twitter no mesmo estilo do teaser anterior e sugeriu uma prévia da colaboração durante sua apresentação ao vivo em Manchester em 24 de maio. No entanto, o cantor do Fire on Fire foi forçado a interromper o show devido a uma doença e nunca cantou a música.
Enquanto isso, Madonna, 64 anos, está se preparando para sua próxima Celebration Tour, que começa em Vancouver em julho e verá a Material Girl apresentando seus sucessos das últimas quatro décadas.

Sam Smith and Madonna have confirmed the release of their new song, Vulgar.
Madonna posted a picture to Instagram on Wednesday featuring both artists' initials, S&M, accompanied by the caption, “VULGAR…………. new song out Friday June 9th @samsmith.”
The official announcement follows weeks of online hints from Smith. On 24 May, the 31-year-old Unholy hitmaker - who uses they/them pronouns - teased the collaboration by sharing an audio clip across their social media, which featured the two artists repeatedly groaning their names, “Sam and Madonna.”
A few days later, Sam shared an image on Twitter in the same style as the previous teaser and hinted towards a sneak preview of the collaboration during their live performance in Manchester on 24 May. However, The Fire on Fire singer was forced to cut the show short due to illness and never performed the song.
Meanwhile, Madonna, 64, has been preparing for her upcoming Celebration Tour, which kicks off in Vancouver in July and will see the Material Girl performing her hits from the last four decades.
Vulgar will be released on 9 June.
